Virginia Senate Update - November 2016

Message from Glen

Dear Friends,

Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours! During this time of year, we are reminded to give thanks for the many wonderful blessings we have as a community and a country. I wish you an enjoyable holiday spent with your family and friends.

With 2016 drawing to a close, our office is working hard to prepare for next year’s legislative session. We have already introduced a few bills  and are putting the finishing touches on several more. To keep up to date with the bills I am sponsoring during the 2017 Legislative Session, please visit:

Last year, I introduced a number of bills at the request of constituents. I am committed to focusing on constituent requests in the upcoming session as well. If you have any ideas about ways that state government can work better, please consider filling out my 2017 Legislative Survey and sharing your ideas with me!

2017 Legislative Survey

We want to hear from you! In preparation for the upcoming 2017 General Assembly Session, we have created a Legislative Survey that will help our office better understand your preferences and views on many important issues likely to arise. We greatly appreciate your thoughtful consideration of the questions and look forward to reading your responses. To participate, please click here.

In order for your responses to be recorded, you will need to provide our office with your name and home address. All of your responses will remain anonymous and we will never share your answers or any identifying information. This step is solely to ensure that respondents are residents of the 10th Senate District.

Thank you in advance for your willingness to participate in our survey. Our office is happy to provide paper surveys to anyone unable to participate in the survey online. If you have any questions or would like to request a survey by mail, please contact my Legislative Aide, Nikki, at 804-698-7510.

Forbes Publishes Annual Ranking of Best States for Business

Creating the conditions to help the private sector get the economy growing again and create more good paying jobs is one of my top priorities in the Senate. This week, Forbes published its annual ranking of the best states for business. Virginia was ranked 6th overall, with the 2nd best labor force and the 8th best quality of life.  Unfortunately, as we have seen in other similar rankings of Virginia in the last couple of years, we were ranked as also having the 29th highest business costs and the 33rd worst economic climate.

In their publication, the Forbes article mentioned, “Virginia ranked as the Best State for Business as recently as 2013, but higher business costs and declining economic climate have pushed it lower. The state ranked among the top two states every year from 2006 through 2013.”

We have a long way to go to further strengthen and diversify our economy and I am committed to sponsoring and supporting legislation to help get the private sector and our economy performing to full potential again.

This year, I will be focusing on legislation to get rid of job-killing regulations, lower taxes for small businesses, and make state government more efficient and effective. Our office is continuing to research new ways to lower the cost of doing business and create a better climate for business. I am excited to share those ideas with you as they are completed.
