Glen Sturtevant Supports Constitutional Amendment for Nonpartisan Redistricting
CHESTERFIELD- Glen Sturtevant, the Republican nominee for Virginia Senate in the 10th District, has signed the OneVirginia2021 pledge in support of redistricting reform, which states, "I support reforming our redistricting process by amending the Virginia Constitution to establish a redistricting process that is done by an impartial, independent commission based on non-partisan, objective criteria." Sturtevant supports nonpartisan redistricting to make districts more representative and fair.
Speaking about nonpartisan redistricting, Sturtevant said, "We have got to take politics out of redistricting so that voters get fair representation and legislative districts keep communities intact, rather than dividing them for partisan political gain. I am proud to sign the OneVirginia2021 pledge."
Earlier this summer, at a forum hosted by Voices for Virginia's Children, Glen voiced his concern over gerrymandered districts, especially the 10th Senate District, saying “This is an extraordinarily gerrymandered Senate district and it’s wrong. We have to fix it.” Increasing government accountability and transparency is one of Sturtevant's top priorities in the State Senate. Fixing gerrymandered districts, like the 10th District, is a component of his plan to increase accountability, access, and to provide fair representation for voters in the Commonwealth.
