Chesterfield Sheriff Karl Leonard and former Sheriff Dennis Proffitt jointly announced their public endorsement of Glen Sturtevant for State Senate in the 10th District of Virginia, which includes Chesterfield County, Powhatan County, and the City of Richmond.
“I am proud to stand with Glen Sturtevant in his campaign for State Senate,” said Sheriff Karl Leonard. “Glen represents the next generation of leadership in Richmond, and as our State Senator he will fight to keep our communities safe.”
“Glen Sturtevant has my support for State Senate because he is a proven conservative leader who understands the importance of protecting our children and families,” said former Sheriff Dennis Proffitt.
“I am honored to have the support of outstanding law enforcement professionals like Sheriffs Leonard and Proffitt,” said Glen Sturtevant. “In the Senate, I will work with law enforcement to make sure they have the necessary resources to protect our children and families throughout Virginia.”
Karl Leonard has served as Chesterfield County Sheriff since March of 2014, and has 30 years of service in law enforcement prior to becoming Sheriff. Leonard has a decorated military career with multiple deployments including Operation Desert Storm, Hurricane Katrina Response, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dennis Proffitt served as the Sheriff of Chesterfield County from 2007 to 2014. His service to Chesterfield County includes a 43-year career in law enforcement.
Chesterfield County accounts for roughly half of the registered voters in the 10th Senate District of Virginia. Today’s announced endorsements from Chesterfield Sheriffs Leonard and Proffitt are the first from any elected official in the district. Additional announcements will be made in the coming days and weeks.

As a concerned parent, Glen got involved in his local schools to make them better. He eventually ran for School Board on an education reform agenda and was overwhelmingly elected by the voters. On the School Board, Glen has focused on commonsense reforms to our education system, including making sure taxpayer dollars are spent in the classroom instead of on bureaucracy, increased transparency in spending, zero-based budgeting, and eliminating waste and abuse.
I appreciate the enormous support and encouragement from you and the thousands of other conservatives across Chesterfield, Powhatan, and Richmond following last week's announcement that I am seeking the Republican nomination for State Senate to fill the seat of retiring Senator John Watkins. I promise to work hard over these next four months to earn your support, and today I'm announcing a new member of my team.

I’m Glen Sturtevant, and today I’m announcing my candidacy for the State Senate in the 10th District, to represent citizens in portions of Chesterfield, Powhatan, and Richmond.
My wife Lori and I are raising our three beautiful children here, and we are committed to ensuring they grow up in a Commonwealth full of opportunity and liberty. That means putting in place common-sense conservative policies that reward hard work, keep taxes low, and safeguard the constitutional freedoms that have made our nation great. That’s what I’ll vote for every time as your state senator.
I hope you’ll share our video with your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers, and then follow us on Twitter (@glensturtevant), like us on Facebook (Glen on Facebook), and connect with us on Instagram (@glensturtevant).
