Statements of Glen Sturtevant on Decisions of Steve Thomas and Bruce Tyler to End State Senate Candidacies in 10th District
RICHMOND - Republican state senate candidate Glen Sturtevant issued statements today following news that both of the other candidates in the Republican nomination contest, Steve Thomas and Bruce Tyler, are ending their candidacies.
Speaking about Steve Thomas, Sturtevant remarked, "This morning, Steve Thomas announced that he will withdraw his name from consideration for the Republican nomination for State Senate in the 10th district. I would like to congratulate Steve and his family on his exciting new career opportunity in Texas. I would also like to thank Steve for his contributions to this race. He has been an important and effective conservative voice for many years in Virginia, including during his service as 3rd district representative to the Republican Party State Central Committee. I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
After news this evening that Bruce Tyler was also ending his campaign, Sturtevant noted, "For years, Bruce Tyler has dedicated himself to serving the people of Richmond. As a councilman, small businessman, and an engaged and committed member of the Richmond-area community, Bruce has rightly earned a reputation as a man of character and dedication. I know today’s decision was not an easy one for him. Anyone who steps into the arena of public service sacrifices greatly and I truly respect Bruce for all that he has done, and all that I know he will continue to do for the people of our region in the years ahead."
"I have spoken to Bruce. I thanked him for his endorsement and I told him I look forward to working together now to move forward as a united and strong Republican Party into what is a critical election this November for Powhatan, Chesterfield, Richmond and all of Virginia. Our Commonwealth faces many challenges. I’m running to bring a common-sense conservative voice to the General Assembly to stand up for taxpayers, make state government more accountable and efficient, and provide new educational opportunities for all students, in all schools. I look forward to continuing to share that positive message and that vision with voters in Powhatan, Chesterfield and Richmond in the weeks and months ahead.”

Richmond -- Wendy Hughes, the Clerk of Court in Chesterfield County, has endorsed Glen Sturtevant's campaign for State Senate. Wendy has more than 20 years of experience in the legal field, and has served as the Chesterfield County Clerk of Court since her countywide election in 2014.
"I support Glen Sturtevant for State Senate because we need a new generation of strong leaders to carry forward conservative values in Richmond," said Wendy Hughes. "Glen is a conservative Republican who has a proven record of winning in a tough district. I am proud to endorse his campaign and look forward to helping him win in June and November."

I am proud to announce our campaign has been endorsed by two Republican members of the Powhatan Board of Supervisors. This morning, David Williams and Barry Hodge announced their endorsements of our campaign for Virginia Senate in the 10th District, which includes all of Powhatan County and portions of Chesterfield County and Richmond City. Williams and Hodge have served on the Powhatan Board since their elections in 2011.
Speaking about his endorsement, Barry Hodge said, “I believe Glen Sturtevant is a strong conservative candidate who will defend our constitutional freedoms and protections. He will defend our property rights and keep taxes low.”
“Glen worked hard as the only Republican School Board member in Richmond to oppose wasteful spending and make sure tax dollars were spent in the classroom,” said Supervisor David Williams. "We need that type of fiscal leadership in the Senate. That is why I am proud to endorse Glen Sturtevant.”
It’s an honor to have the support of these two hard working community leaders in Powhatan. In the State Senate, I will work hand and hand with the citizens of Powhatan and the entire district to make state government more accountable to you.
Virginia’s 10th State Senate District includes all of Powhatan County, and today’s endorsements are the first in this race from any elected officials in the county. In recent weeks, we have also been honored to announce a number of major endorsements from elected officials in neighboring Chesterfield County. I look forward to making additional announcements over the next several days and weeks, and I am honored to have received such early, enthusiastic support from some of the District’s strongest conservative leaders.
I was honored to receive two additional endorsements from Chesterfield County prosecutors. Chesterfield Commonwealth’s Attorney, the Honorable William “Billy” Davenport, and Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney John Childrey jointly announced their endorsement of my campaign for State Senate.
“I am proud to support Glen Sturtevant for State Senate. Glen is a proven conservative leader who will defend the Constitution,” said Davenport. “I look forward to working with him on the important issues facing Chesterfield County, including protecting our children and families from dangerous criminals.”
“Glen Sturtevant is the conservative leader that we need in Virginia and the best candidate for Senate to represent the people of Chesterfield County,” said Childrey. "I am excited to announce my support for Glen’s campaign.”
It is an honor to have the support of Chesterfield County prosecutors and public servants like Billy Davenport and John Childrey. I will work with them to make our communities safe and to improve our quality of life in central Virginia.
This is the second set of major endorsements for our campaign from Chesterfield County. Just last week, Chesterfield Sheriff Karl Leonard and former Sheriff Dennis Proffitt announced their support for us as well. A growing number of elected leaders from across the district are coming together in support of our campaign, but we need your support as well.
